How the Age Calculation Works
Exact age isn't simple subtraction — calendars are irregular. The method: take full years first (subtract birth year from the current year, minus one if this year's birthday hasn't happened yet), then count whole remaining months, then leftover days — borrowing days from the previous month when needed, just like subtraction with borrowing in school arithmetic.
For June 15, 1990 → October 30, 2026: full years = 36 (birthday passed in June), months = October − June = 4, days = 30 − 15 = 15 → 36 years, 4 months, 15 days. Month lengths and leap years are handled by the real calendar, not averages — so the answer is exact, not approximate.
More Than Years: Months, Weeks & Days
Years are just one lens. The same life can be counted as months (about 436), weeks (about 1,906), days (13,341), hours (320,184), or even heartbeats (over a billion). Different counts suit different purposes: days for precise milestones ("10,000 days old" parties are a real tradition), weeks for pregnancy and project timelines, months for infant development — pediatricians track babies in months until age two because the changes are so rapid.
The "total days lived" number is also the input to every other fun stat on this page: divide by 7 for weeks, multiply by 24 for hours, and you can even estimate ~8,000 days of sleep or ~40,000 meals. It's your life, quantified.
Worked Example
Born June 15, 1990 — as of October 30, 2026
Exact age: 36 years, 4 months, 15 days.
Total days: 13,341 (including 9 leap days: 1992, 1996 … 2024).
Born on a: Friday.
Zodiac: Gemini (May 21 – June 20) · Chinese: Horse.
Next birthday: June 15, 2027 — turning 37.
How Leap Years Are Handled
A leap year adds February 29 — one extra day that keeps the calendar aligned with Earth's orbit. Leap days count as ordinary days in your total, and the year/month breakdown uses actual month lengths, so everything stays exact.
Born on February 29? You get the rarest birthday (about 1 in 1,461). Legally, most places treat March 1 — or February 28 — as your birthday in non-leap years; this calculator counts from February 28 and shows a note when it does. Your "real" quadrennial birthdays are worth celebrating properly — only about 5 million people worldwide share the date.
Fun Age Statistics
- 10,000 days old happens at about 27 years, 4 months — a milestone worth a party.
- A billion seconds is roughly 31.7 years. Crossing it is a genuine once-in-a-lifetime event.
- Your birth weekday cycles: birthdays fall on the same weekday every 5–6 years (11 in some patterns).
- Zodiac signs are date ranges, not personality tests — but they're fun shorthand people love to share.
- "Age at any date" works backwards too: enter a past date to answer "how old was I when…?" — graduations, first jobs, historic events.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my exact age?
Subtract your birth date from today's date on a real calendar: full years first, then remaining months, then days — accounting for different month lengths and leap years. This calculator does it with calendar accuracy.
How old am I in days?
Multiply your age in years by 365, add leap days and the extra days — or just enter your birth date above: the "total days lived" stat gives the exact count instantly.
How do leap years affect age calculation?
Leap days (February 29) count like any other day in the total, and the year/month breakdown uses real calendar months. If you were born on February 29, the calculator notes how non-leap years are handled.
What is chronological age?
Chronological age is simply the time elapsed since birth — the number this calculator gives you. It differs from "biological age" (how old your body seems based on health markers), which no date calculator can measure.
Can I calculate someone else's age?
Yes — enter any birth date. Parents use it for school enrollment cutoffs, and it works for pets too: try the "as of" date to see age at a past event.
